An eight point plan on tackling peak-time congestion in Cambridge was shared with the public between 11 July to 10 October 2016.

The Tackling Peak-Time Congestion engagement was carried out during the summer of 2016 and sought views on an 8-point package of proposals for the City Centre.

It was the most successful engagement exercise of the City Deal so far with over 10,000 responses received to the proposals.

Results of the engagement

Responses were received from a wide range of people. although the majority were in employment, between the ages of 35-44, and identified themselves as car drivers.

The feedback from the survey included:

  • The most popular proposal was the introduction of better pedestrian and cycling facilities.
  • The least popular option was the introduction of the 6 Peak-time Congestion Control Points.
  • Most public transport users (18.7%) thought better bus services and expanded Park & Ride would improve their journeys.
  • The Under 17, 65-74, and 75 and above groups all identified better bus services and expanded Park and Ride as an option that would improve their journeys.
  • The majority of respondents (32.5%) said that, if the proposals were introduced, they would change to public transport. 23.2% said they would switch to active modes of travel.
