Composite visualisation of some of the improvements planned on the route, showing new cycle lanes

Work to improve bus, cycling and walking journeys along Histon Road is now underway.

A new bus lane and significantly improved walking and cycleways will make it quicker and easier for people to travel into the city.

Work to trim hedges and remove some trees to clear the site will begin from 27 January. Construction on the new layout for the Histon Road/Victoria Road/Huntingdon Road junction will start from 31 January, both with temporary traffic signals in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm. Histon Road will remain open throughout these phases of work.

Histon Road is currently planned to be closed in May to all inbound traffic after the completion of work by Highways England to junctions 32 and 33 of the A14– currently expected by May. Construction will then begin on the new bus lanes, and upgraded walking and cycling links.

A diversion via the A14, Milton Road and Victoria Road will be in place throughout the construction phase. Cyclists and pedestrians will still be able to use Histon Road in both directions.

The table below shows the current planned programme of work (please note timescales are indicative and be subject to change):
