Joint letter urges Highways England to improve M11

Published: Friday, October 20, 2017

A letter requesting improvements to be made to the M11 and Girton interchange has been sent to Highways England by the Greater Cambridge Partnership and MPs.

The joint letter signed by the GCP’s Executive Board members and MPs Heidi Allen and Daniel Zeichner asks for Highways England to focus on the M11 at and near the Girton intercharge as part of the partnership’s ambitious transport plans to reduce congestion, speed up journey times and to enable the significant growth planned in Greater Cambridge.

The partnership has asked Highways England to support its transport programme by introducing a ‘smart motorway’ between junction 8 and junction 14 at Girton.

The letter also urges Highways England to consider capacity improvements at junctions 10, 11, 12 and 13 to manage congestion, alongside an ‘all-movements’ Girton interchange at junction 14 of the M11 as part of the East West Expressway.

The letter can be read in full below.
