New jetty to be installed as Chisholm Trail work continuesPublished: Wednesday, August 05, 2020
A new jetty will soon be installed as the Chisholm Trail continues to take shape.
The jetty, which connects the footpath between Stourbridge Common and Ditton Meadows, will be installed from 13 August. It is expected to reopen this autumn to enable people to walk and cycle across the common.
It marks an important step in the Chisholm Trail - a joint project between the Greater Cambridge Partnership and Cambridgeshire County Council to deliver a new first-class walking and cycling route across the city.
There will be restrictions in place for motorists using Fen Road and for users of the River Cam, which will be subject to full closures for different phases of this work.
Letters are being sent to residents and river users about the proposed restrictions. Further information on the lifting in of the Abbey-Chesterton Bridge will be made available in due course.
Once complete, the Chisholm Trail will enable people to walk or ride on a mostly off-road route connecting Cambridge North to Cambridge Station, making it easier and safer to access jobs, education and green spaces.
Phase 1 of the Chisholm Trail is expected to be complete in autumn 2021.
