The City Deal is a long-term plan split into three tranches, based on Government funding available over a 15-year period. The initial £100 million investment agreed up to 2019, will enable us to deliver a number of tranche 1 transport projects designed to:

  • Bring vital improvements to key routes into the city.
  • Connect existing and new residential and employment areas with high quality public transport networks, including new orbital bus routes around Cambridge.
  • Provide more sustainable ways for people to travel between their homes and places of work, through a comprehensive network of pedestrian and cycle routes.

The tranche 1 City Deal projects have prioritised schemes that can be delivered quickly and provide immediate benefits to residents and commuters in Greater Cambridge. Subject to independent assessment of the economic growth achieved through this first tranche of activity, we will apply for further funding for 2020-2024 to deliver tranche 2.
