As a result of the General Election being announced for 12th December, the decision has been made to postpone the GCP Joint Assembly and Executive Board meetings that were scheduled for 21st November and 12th December respectively.
While there are no legal restrictions on councils' decision-making during the pre-election period, most councils follow Cabinet Office advice and operate on the basis that decisions will not be taken that may be significant in their effects during this period. Public bodies must be careful to strike the balance between properly carrying out their functions and not taking decisions on controversial or sensitive issues until after the relevant election.
The Joint Assembly was due to consider the Outline Business Case and project team recommendations for the end to end route for the Cambourne to Cambridge scheme and the Executive Board was due to make a decision on these recommendations. These items with all others that would have been on the agenda for these meetings will now be rescheduled to meetings in the New Year - exact dates are yet to be confirmed.
As these meetings will no longer take place, the next meeting of the Local Liaison Forum that was due to take place on Monday 18th November will now be postponed. Information about new dates will be sent in due course.
