People are invited to have their say on two more Greenway projects as the Greater Cambridge Partnership announce plans to investigate how to tackle flooding on the guided busway path.

Two eight-week-long public consultations have opened on proposals to improve links to the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway path for people walking, cycling and horse-riding.

The improvements are designed to make it easier and safer to reach the path from Fen Drayton, Over, Oakington, Westwick and Cottenham. Residents from the villages and beyond are invited to look at the proposals and have their say before midday on the 31 March.

The projects are part of the St Ives Greenway, which would see the busway path adopted as part of the Greater Cambridge Greenways. Greenway branded maps and signposts will eventually line the route to help people find their way to local destinations along the route.

The GCP has also installed flood monitoring equipment in the Fen Drayton lakes area around the busway to gather data on flooding over the coming 18 months to help design any potential flood alleviation measures.

Thomas Fitzpatrick, GCP Transport Programme Manager, said:

“The guided busway path is a fantastic asset for our region, but for many nearby it is too hard to get to by foot or bike, and it’s really frustrating on the rare occasions that it is flooded.

“We’re inviting anyone with an interest in the area to have their say on the proposals and asking people to be patient while we monitor flooding over the next year-and-a-half so that we invest wisely to protect the path well into the future.”

The Greenways are a network of 12 new walking, cycling and – where appropriate – equestrian links to provide better connections to more than 50 communities and public transport hubs across the region.

An open, online public event will be held on the evening of 2 March with more information here.
