Following the publication of the Making Connections public consultation report and discussion at the GCP joint assembly, the GCP executive board is now getting the chance to discuss the findings of the survey.

The consultation which took place in late 2022, set out to transform the bus network alongside better walking and cycling infrastructure that would be funded by the phased introduction of a road-user charge.

The five members of the board will meet on Thursday 29 June to be presented with the public’s feedback on the proposals as well as scrutiny from the recent joint assembly. You will be able to view the meeting live on YouTube.

Assembly members agreed something had to change on the original proposals to balance the public’s support for better buses and enhanced walking and cycling links, with survey respondents concerns about the introduction of a sustainable travel zone.

The board is being presented with a range of scenarios for modifying the scheme, which include potential changes such as peak hour only charges, exemptions for patients and visitors to the NHS hospitals, the idea of ‘free days’, or reducing the charge.

Finally, the board will be asked whether they support further technical assessments required for an outline business case to be presented to the GCP and Cambridgeshire County Council meetings in the autumn 2023.

As well as the executive board, there will also be a unique joint assembly and executive board meeting on Monday 26 June which was requested for the presentation of additional material to be scrutinised.
