Signs inspired by the environment set to help people around proposed Greenways network
Signs inspired by the environment are expected to adorn the Greater Cambridge Greenways network after the public selected the rural green design in a poll.
The Greater Cambridge Partnership, which is creating the 150km Greenway network of 12 walking, cycling and equestrian routes, held a ballot in February and asked people to choose between rural green or Cambridge blue wayfinding signs.
The rural green design – inspired by the natural environment through which the routes will take to provide safe and smooth active travel journeys between Cambridge and surrounding towns and villages – gained the most votes (223) from more than 400 cast by the public.
The maps and signs will help people find their way along the Greenways network, which will follow off-road paths, run along quiet streets or new infrastructure alongside busier roads.
Thomas Fitzpatrick, GCP Programme Manager, said:
“Thank you to everyone that took the time to cast their vote. We will put the results of the poll before members of the Executive Board in June for ratification and – if agreed – we plan to get the first of the rural green signs up on the Greenways route next year.”
The Greenways will interconnect with existing active travel routes and Park & Ride sites, as well as new transport projects being delivered by the GCP and its partners to help encourage people to travel more sustainably to work, education and social events.
