Our Milton Road project will be completed this autumn, delivering safer, faster, and more sustainable travel options to residents and anyone using the route to get in and out of the city. With segregated walking and cycling paths, Copenhagen crossings for quicker journeys and improved junctions, people will enjoy smoother routes to local destinations. Over 200 new trees, wildflower verges, and rain gardens will enhance the area’s biodiversity, creating a greener, more vibrant community space.
Autumn progress on GCP transport projects
New infrastructure and ideas to significantly improve people’s journeys now and in the future have been progressed by the Greater Cambridge Partnership this autumn.
We’ve put forward proposals for new schemes to create a joined-up transport network to significantly improve how people travel. We’re also looking at how we can use new technology to transform journeys in the future.
Milton Road
Madingley Road
Our Madingley Road engagement ran between Monday 2 and Monday 30 September and included proposals for new cycle lanes, segregated footways, and Copenhagen crossings to make your journeys to and from the city centre safer. The feedback is now being analysed and will go to our Executive Board for a decision on how to progress the project.

Cambridge Tech Week
Cambridge’s reputation for global innovation is well-earned, but the challenges of keeping up with such rapid growth are immense.
This September, Dan Clarke, our Head of innovation and technology, spoke at Cambridge Tech Week. Dan discussed how we are supporting the region’s thriving tech sector and investing in transport infrastructure to help the community benefit from the jobs and opportunities being created in our region.

Joint Assembly papers
We’re set to take decisions on key projects to transform public transport journeys and improve walking and cycling links.
At our board meeting on Wednesday 2 October, members agreed to progress three projects which could help people travel to where they need to go quickly, easily, and reliably.
The board was formally asked to resume and progress phase two of the CSET project; agree to the submission of a planning application for a new and expanded travel hub to replace the existing Newmarket Road Park & Ride; and approve the start of early works on Adams Road in Cambridge and in Coton village to make walking and cycling safer as part of the Comberton Greenway.
Cambridge South East Transport phase 2
This September we visited campuses across Greater Cambridge to explain more about Cambridge South East Transport (CSET) - a new busway between the A11 and Cambridge Biomedical Campus via the Babraham Research Campus. The route will mean quick, reliable, and safer journeys from a new travel hub near the A11/A1307 junction via a guided bus along with a path for walkers and cyclists.
Feedback from businesses and staff at these sites can be viewed below.
Greenways
We're expanding our greenways network to make walking, wheeling and cycling safer and easier. Key progress includes halfway completion of improvements on the Melbourn Greenway, a new path on the Linton Greenway and a temporary route on the Barton Greenway during widening works. In Fen Ditton, a new zebra crossing is nearly finished connecting the community to safer routes. These upgrades are part of our commitment to creating a safe, seamless, and accessible network for all.
