Civil engineering firm Octavius has been appointed by the GCP to start work on the new greenway, which will make it easier and safer to walk, wheel and cycle between Bottisham and Cambridge.  The full Bottisham Greenway project still requires planning approvals for some off-road aspects, but construction is beginning on upgrades to existing active travel paths, improved crossing points, junctions and wayfinding signage, and provision for horse riders where appropriate. The GCP is also upgrading the lighting in the A14 underpass near Quy Mill.

Cllr Brian Milnes, Chair of the Greater Cambridge Partnership, said: “We’re moving to the next phase of delivering the Bottisham Greenway, helping people to travel sustainably between Bottisham and Cambridge. The start of construction marks a key milestone in our ambition for a greener, healthier and more connected Greater Cambridge.”

Jon Millar, Framework Director, Octavius Infrastructure, said: “We are delighted to be delivering the Bottisham Greenway project for the Greater Cambridge Partnership, with the project providing a greatly improved facility for greener and safer travel into the city for cyclists and pedestrians from Bottisham and surrounding area.”

With work due to start early in the new year, residents will receive further information about the construction works in the coming weeks. Works will be planned to minimise disruption as much as possible.

At its November meeting, the GCP Executive Board also approved the Swaffham Greenway Full Business Case, with a contractor set to be appointed in the new year.

Subject to planning approvals, Swaffham Greenway will follow the B1102, connecting the Bottisham Greenway with Lode and Swaffham Bulbeck. Together the two greenways will make it easier to travel between the eastern Cambridgeshire villages and Cambridge.
