Barton

Barton village
In Barton, improvements to the path and carriageway located on the junction between Kings Grove/New Road, High Street/Comberton Road and High Street/School Lane are progressing well.
The latest works on Kings Grove/New Road are anticipated to last between six to seven weeks with multiway traffic lights to ensure the safety of people traveling along the route and the workforce.
On High Street/School Lane/New Road, works have been paused and will be returned to in the next phase of works. This section of road will not re-open as this area will be landscaped with wildflowers and trees to provide a new green space for the community. You will still be able to continue your journeys via High Street/Comberton Road/New Road.
Works have now begun on Comberton Road for approximately four to five weeks. These works will use temporary traffic lights and road closures to manage the traffic.
We would like to thank everyone from the local community, businesses and parish council for their patience as work on the Barton Greenway continues.

Barton Road
Works to widen and improve the walking and cycling path along Barton Road are now underway. The road remains open during the day, with night-time closures (8pm–6am) and a signed diversion route in place to minimise any disruption while works take place. A temporary footway has been installed to safely divert pedestrians and cyclists while works are ongoing on the main pathway. Once completed, Barton Road will provide a wider shared-use path with better drainage to ensure the route can be used in all weather, year-round. Our aim is to improve safety for people walking, cycling and driving through better separation between the path and road, alongside a new, slower speed limit for all vehicles.
Comberton Greenway

Adams Road
The Adams Road section of the Comberton Greenway runs from Grange Road to Wilberforce Road junction. Already used by up to 3,000 cyclists daily, Adams Road will become England’s first Cycle Street.
The works involve changing the existing road layout by widening both sides of the footways and reducing the width of the road giving priority to cyclists. A limited number of parking bays will be created, with all other on street parking being removed. This will improve safety for everyone and create user-friendly conditions for pedestrians and cyclists.
Both the footways and the road will be resurfaced as part of the project. Planting areas and associated drainage improvement works will also be added to ensure water safely drains away from the road.
Subject to final design agreements, these works are currently planned to commence in early autumn.
The works will mainly be completed on daytime partial road closures with access only permitted for residents, walkers and cyclists. This will be achieved by splitting the working phases in two halves at Sylvester Road.

Coton village
This section of greenway works includes The Footpath, Footpath/High Street junction (Plough Public House), High Street/Cambridge Road junction and Whitewell Way outside primary school.
The works involve street lighting improvements, carriageway resurfacing, junction alterations and footway improvements.
A raised table, similar to those being installed in Barton village, will be introduced at the junction in the centre of the village (High Street/Cambridge Road) to slow vehicle speeds. This will ensure parents and children will be able to cross safely at school drop-off and pickups while pedestrians and cyclists can cross the junctions at other times. Works outside the Plough Public house will consist of an introduction of a new formalised give way junction and new landscaping.
Works will include drainage installation/improvements, along with fencing, landscaping and footway surfacing. Subject to final agreements, this project is scheduled to start in early autumn.
Works will mainly be undertaken on days with traffic lights and road closures (maintaining access as required). Elements such as road surfacing and marking will be undertaken on nights with full road closures to minimise the impact to users.
General update
Progress has been continuing as expected along all 11 of the remaining routes.
