Greenways update: December 2025

Published 23 December 2025

Welcome to our December 2025 newsletter

Here are our latest updates on the twelve greenways, find out what is happening near you:

Comberton Greenway

Adams Road Dec 2025

Adams Road

The northern side of Adams Road, between Wilberforce Road and Sylvester Road, is now open, with the footways fully resurfaced.

The no on-street parking restrictions along Adams Road will continue to be enforced over the Christmas break so all areas of work are accessible upon our return to site in the new year.

Works are now on hold over the Christmas period and our teams will return in the new year, but periodic site safety checks will be made. The 24-hour greenways phone number: 0800 0281363 can continue to be used as normal.

Coton Dec 2025

Coton village

Construction is progressing well in Coton. At the Cambridge Road junction, drainage work and the installation of kerbing has been completed. All remaining work will be completed in the new year which will include resurfacing and improvements to streetlighting as well as the implementation of a speed limit of 20mph throughout the village.

Barton Greenway

Barton village Dec 2025

Barton village

In Barton we recently added a new bench opposite Kings Grove and planted seven new trees as part of our landscaping including a Christmas tree which has been decorated by the community (pictured). We have also improved streetlighting. We will return to the village to complete the remaining works in the new year. This will include overnight road closures to complete road surfacing and lining.

Barton Raod Dec 2025

Barton Road

The newly-completed walking and cycling path will provide a safer, more accessible walking and cycling route between Barton and Cambridge.

The Barton Road lay-by, where the site compound was located during works, will be fully cleared and reinstated in the new year. Improvements to drainage will ensure the route can be used year-round and the introduction of a slower speed limit will improve safety for all users.

Bottisham Greenway

Bottisham Dec 2025

This year we’ve been working on land procurement, designs and road safety audits for the new walking and cycling route between Cambridge and the eastern villages of Bottisham and Stow-cum-Quy. Our priority is to finalise the detailed designs and to issue a full business case for the scheme. Once these are completed, we will submit a planning application.

Fulbourn Greenway

Fulbourn Dec 2025

In early 2025, our board agreed to a new alignment for the section between the A1134 and the Carter Bridge to link the rest of the greenway and the Chisholm Trail via Mill Road. We have worked with Cambridgeshire County Council to resurface Apthorpe Street and Cow Lane, Fulbourn this will be completed in the new year.

Recently, we’ve been preparing a consultation on the second phase of the Fulbourn Greenway route between Yarrow Road and the A1134 (Brooks Road). We look forward to hearing from you when the consultation opens in early 2026.

Haslingfield Greenway

Haslingfield Dec 2025

The Haslingfield Greenway is in its final design phases and we’re making progress towards a planning submission. We’re also finalising our plans for biodiversity and continuing to liaise with landowners and stakeholders, including National Highways.

Horningsea Greenway

Horningsea Dec 2025

This year we finished the Horningsea Greenway, the first of our twelve routes to be fully open for use. The greenway connects people walking, wheeling and cycling between Horningsea, Fen Ditton and Cambridge.

Linton Greenway

Linton Dec 2025

We’re working with stakeholders to develop designs for the Linton Greenway and will complete them over the upcoming months.

The Linton Village College and Pampisford Road links are progressing well with construction now planned for 2026.

Melbourn Greenway

Melbourn Dec 2025

We will inform residents and stakeholders when the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) for Melbourn, Meldreth and Shepreth will be discussed and determined.

We expect work in Shepreth to start in spring 2026, while a decision on the construction of the rest of the Melbourn Greenway will be taken to the summer 2026 meeting of our board.

Sawston Greenway

Sawston Dec 2025

Two sections of the Sawston Greenway, Great Shelford/Stapleford and the DNA path, have undergone further buildability and road safety checks. Determination of the Traffic Regulation Orders (TRO) for the schemes is also anticipated next year. Residents and stakeholders will be informed of the date that the TRO will be discussed and determined.

For the rest of the Sawston Greenway (Cambridge Biomedical Campus and A1301), work on our full business case and biodiversity assessments is currently underway.

These will enable us to submit the rest of the scheme for board review in the summer, for a decision to progress the scheme to construction in late 2026/early 2027.

St Ives Greenway

St Ives Dec 2025

We are finalising detailed design and working with landowners and stakeholders to ensure delivery in 2026.

Our next steps for the greenway will include continuing to liaise with landowners and working with our designers to shape the Oakington to Cottenham detailed designs.

Swaffham Greenway

Swaffham Dec 2025

We’re currently finalising our designs and liaising with local landowners to secure permissions before we can submit our planning application for the route.

Our focus over the next few months will be meeting stakeholders to discuss plans for the scheme and concluding the land procurement process.

Waterbeach Greenway

Waterbeach Dec 2025

We’re progressing designs for the northern section of the route. As part of this, surveys are being developed, lighting specification requirements are being worked up, and we’re talking to landowners on our plans for the route.

Thank you for your co-operation and understanding while we deliver these key improvement projects. We’ll continue to update you with progress on the greenways in our next monthly newsletter. Until then we would like to thank wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
