Barton Greenway

Barton village
Works in Barton village resumed on 5 January 2026 after the site was cleared for the Christmas break. The safer crossings and traffic calming measures in Barton are now almost complete, with surfacing finished earlier this month. Our contractors will complete the last few elements such as completing the crossing near Kings Grove in February (subject to supplier availability).
|
Our works in Barton have:
- Made walking and cycling safer for everyone, including children, families and older residents.
- Improved safety and visibility with better lighting, smoother pavements and crossings.
- Reduced speeds through a new 20mph speed limit.
|
|
This has been done through:
- Improving streetlighting, footways, kerbing and drainage to maximise safety and visibility.
- Installing new features such as speed humps and raised table junctions to complement the extension of the 20mph speed limit throughout the village, making roads safer for pedestrians and cyclists.
- Introducing new landscaping along High Street / School Lane / New Road.

We would like to thank everyone from the local community for their patience.

Barton Road
Barton Road will be closed to traffic overnight on Friday 30 January from 8pm to Saturday 31 January at 6am as part of our final works. Throughout these works, access will be maintained for pedestrians and cyclists.
The diversion route will be the same as when our works were previously carried out on Barton Road:
Cambridge Road (A603) – Ermine Way (A1198) – Old North Road (A1198) – A505 – A10 – Hauxton Road – High Street – Trumpington Road (A1134) – Fen Causeway (A1134) – Newnham Road (A603) – Barton Road (A603).
Comberton Greenway

Adams Road
New kerbs and footway surfacing has been completed on the northern side of Adams Road between Wilberforce Road and Sylvester Road. This footway is now open for public use.
Kerb removal and excavation has started on the southern side of Adams Road from Wilberforce Road to Sylvester Road.
Works are now also underway on the northern side of the road from Sylvester Road to Grange Road. Vegetation clearance is underway and trial holes are being drilled, this will be followed by kerb removal.
We would like to thank the residents of Adams Road for their patience whilst construction continues.

Coton village
Works in Coton village have resumed after the site was demobilised over Christmas. These works will add street lighting to improve safety at Whitwell Way near the Primary School. After the street lighting has been installed, works will pause for a short period before returning to resurface Cambridge Road junction.
Currently, the project is expected to finish in early 2026. The implementation of the 20mph speed limit throughout the village will be installed later on in the year.
We would like to thank Coton residents for their patience whilst construction continues.
