In Barton, construction is progressing well. The following works have been completed:

  • The installation of new streetlight columns on New Road.
  • Drainage improvements and installation of kerbing on Kings Grove and New Road.
  • The resurfacing of the walking and cycling path on New Road and Kings Grove
  • Drainage and footway improvements on Comberton Road.

Over the next few weeks, the works on the project will involve the completion of the works located on New Road, Comberton Road and High Street. This will include:

  • Streetlighting improvements located on New Road between Kings Grove junction and Comberton Road.
  • Path improvements located on New Road by Barton C of E Primary School.
  • Kerbing & path improvements on New Road in the section between High Street and School Lane.

These works will be completed utilising temporary traffic lights during the daytime to ensure the safety of the workforce and anyone travelling along the route. Overnight, there are road closures are required for the surfacing of the road and footway. Impacted residents will receive a letter prior to the closures taking place.

We would like to thank everyone from the local community for their patience as work on the Barton Greenway continues.

Barton Road

Barton Road October 2025

On Barton Road, construction is progressing well, with works slightly ahead of programme, following work across two weekends in October.

We would like to thank all road and path users for following the on site traffic management which ensures the safety of our workforce and the public.

The first few hundred metres of the new kerb line have been installed between the Haggis Farm interchange and Laundry Farm, along with improved drainage.

Over the next couple of weeks, the team will progress the construction of the footway which includes the installation of the base tarmac layer.

Once complete, the improvements will deliver a wider walking and cycling path with improved drainage.

Comberton Greenway

Adams Road October 2025

Comberton Greenway – Adams Road

The Adams Road section of the Comberton Greenway runs from Grange Road to Wilberforce Road junction. Already used by up to 3,000 cyclists daily, Adams Road will become England’s first Cycle Street.

Daytime road closures are in place between Wilberforce Road, Stacey Lane and Sylvester Road. Access through Wilberforce Road/Adams Road junction for residents and users of the sports facilities during working hours will be permitted, with controlled access through the closure.

A no parking zone has been implemented along the entirety of Adams Road with double yellow lines, to improve safety by creating more space along the footways. Parking on the eastern section of the carriageway on Wilberforce has also been restricted to improve safety for vehicles and cyclists.

Vegetation clearance of existing hedgerows and tree branches has commenced as planned.

The northern section of Adams Road will be fully reconstructed first alongside the alterations to Wilberforce Road junction. The existing footway will be widened with a new kerb line. Associated drainage, construction of parking bays and rain garden planting areas will all be completed on the northern section before works switch over to the Southern section of Adams Road between Wilberforce and Sylvester Road.

During works, there will be closure points at each end of Adams Road, and access for residents. However, residents may need to come through a particular end of the road depending on the stage of works. Signage will be in place if this is the case.

Cyclists should follow the signage and dismount when using the temporary path which is in place for the duration of the works for the safety of all users

We would like to thank the residents of Adams Road for their patience.

Coton village

Coton October 2025

In Coton construction is progressing well. Excavation, kerbing and tarmacking has been completed outside The Plough Public house. At the High Street junction, work is underway to prepare for the new formalised give way junction.

The footpath on Whitwell Way is currently closed while the installation of new kerbs and preparation for tarmacking is in progress. Works for Whitwell Way are taking place between 8.00am - 4.00pm with two-way traffic lights in operation between these times.

Outside Coton primary school, traffic temporary traffic lights are in place between 8.00am – 4.00pm, so parents and children can cross safely at school drop-off and pickups.
