Waterbeach station – statement

Published 25 September 2026

The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) is building the new Waterbeach station, which will be modern, accessible, fit-for-purpose and future-proofed. Building the station unlocks planning permission for 4,500 new homes and will support the growth of the community.

With regards to the current station, the Department for Transport will lead the consultation process on the future of the existing station. The GCP has no powers to be able to close an existing station. The authority and statutory duty lies with the Department for Transport.

The new station will have wider platforms, an accessible footbridge and lifts, 100 cycle spaces and electric vehicle charging points.

The station is part of a package of transport projects being delivered in Waterbeach by the Greater Cambridge Partnership, including a new travel hub with park and ride facilities, a new busway, and the Waterbeach Greenway. Together, these projects will provide sustainable and convenient ways for people to travel into Cambridge.
