The length of the greenway is approximately 4.8km from Barton village to the end of Barton Road, within Cambridge, with the Barton to Grantchester spur an additional 1.5km.

Works in Barton village and on Barton Road (A603) are now complete.

We are aiming for works to start in 2027 on Haggis Farm roundabout, before moving onto the M11 bridge and roundabout and then onto New Road and Cambridge Road junction.

Designs for Barton Road, urban section, have recommenced in 2026 where we are working with the local councillors and residents’ group to finalise a design for future construction.

The Barton Greenway will make it easier for people to walk, wheel or cycle between Barton and Cambridge, with provision for horse riding where possible.

We are implementing signalised crossings for the M11 slip roads along the north side of Barton Road, providing safe dedicated crossing times for walkers and wheelers.

All of our greenways routes will have signage and wayfinding, which will help people who are not familiar with the route.
