Our project with VivaCity has delivered a network of traffic sensors across Cambridge. These monitor movement 24/7, 365 days a year and collect data on movements, speeds, turning behaviours, near miss incidents and traffic flow.
The sensors detect up to nine different road user types including pedestrians, cyclists, e-scooters, cars, and buses. They are designed to provide accurate data on road use in a completely anonymous way.
We can use data from the sensors to understand how roads are being used, locate potential danger spots, and monitor the impact of our projects all in real-time.
The data is used across councils – by road safety teams, project managers and business intelligence, to make better decisions.
Interested in traffic movement and volume in your area? The data is available through an online dashboard.
