Work begins on final section of Histon Rd project

The final section of work to upgrade cycling, walking and public transport journeys along Histon Road has been started.

The southern section of Histon Road from Gilbert Road junction to Huntingdon Road has been completed and was opened to all traffic in August.

The Greater Cambridge Partnership’s work is now concentrating on the northern section between the Gilbert Road junction and Kings Hedges Road junction.

Histon Road should fully reopen to all traffic by the end of September, helping to cut congestion and improve journeys and air quality along Histon Road.

In order to finish the work there will be a final set of overnight road closures, where some or all the road will be closed.

These include:

  • Six nights between 13 September and 20 September - the road will be closed between 8pm and 6am between the Windsor Road junction and Gilbert Road junction.
  • 13 nights between 20 September and 8 October - Histon Road will be closed between 8 pm and 6am between the Gilbert Road junction and the Kings Hedges Road junction.

While the road is closed a signed diversion route will be in place for drivers travelling to and from the city via the A14. This diversion is via the A14, Milton Road and Victoria Road is signposted from the A14.

The overnight closures will impact the Citi 8 and Busway B bus routes. Further information will be available on the Stagecoach website nearer the time.
