There will be 'build outs' at the entrance to the village (garden centre side), where the village sign is located and in two other places to slow down traffic. Junctions at side roads will be improved and speed limits on the side roads reduced to 20mph to make these intersections safer. The aim will be to keep traffic away from non-motorised vehicle users as much as possible and reduce speeds in the village. Lighting will help make cycling through these 'quiet streets' an easier and more pleasant experience.
There is a widened shared-use path on one side of the road, forming a continual ribbon to keep non-motorised-vehicle users away from traffic. The crossing over the A14 will be made safer with a raised parapet, resurfacing and signalised slip roads.
There is an improved high-quality crossing at the crossroads with a raised-table parallel crossing at the High Street junction to keep walkers and cyclists safely apart. To help reduce speeding on the High Street, the speed limit on the High Street will be reduced to 20mph. Added to the existing measures along the route, this will make it safer for people to access the school and other facilities from both directions. Existing paths on the main road will enable walkers and cyclists to carry on to the local shops and facilities.
In addition to the reduced speed limit, there will be textured road surfacing near the church.
Cycle parking will be installed where the Wadloes path meets the High Street. This will benefit church-goers and visitors to the river as well as visitors to the village itself. Some minor maintenance work will take place at the end of the Wadloes path near the church.
Continuing along the existing path, it will then be possible to join up with the Bottisham Greenway, which proceeds towards central Cambridge, at Ditton Meadows.
