Our Waterbeach projects

Waterbeach railway station

Up to 11,000 new homes are being built in Waterbeach over the next twenty years, and up to 20,000 new jobs created nearby. To make sure everyone can get around easily, we are delivering a package of transport projects in Waterbeach.

Our projects are all linked, so you can park at the new travel hub and catch a bus along the new busway into Cambridge or use the new Greenway to continue your journey on bike.

Together these projects will help to relieve pressure on the transport network and allow more people to travel sustainably.

Waterbeach Station visulisation

A new railway station

We are relocating the current railway station to be nearer the new town. The new £40m station is expected to be complete by 2027. It will be more accessible and better integrated with cycling and bus facilities.

Waterbeach electric bus

A new travel hub with park and ride

We’re also planning a new travel hub, west of the A10 in Waterbeach, north of Denny End Road. Cars and buses will access the hub via a new junction on the A10. The travel hub will include parking for 1,600 cars, coaches, trailers, cycles, and motorcycles. Buses will use our planned new busway into Cambridge.

Waterbeach to Cambridge cross section

A new busway

There are also plans for a new busway to connect Waterbeach and Cambridge. The route will link the new railway station to Cambridge Research Park and then connect to the city’s existing busway serving Cambridge Regional College, the Science Park, Cambridge North station, and the city centre. We expect there to be a public inquiry into this busway as part of the planning process in 2026.

Cowley Road

A new walking and cycling path

Waterbeach Greenway joins Waterbeach to Cambridge North and the Chisholm Trail, via Milton and the walking and cycling bridge over the A14. Part of the Greenway has already been delivered: Cowley Road. The remaining sections of the Greenway will be constructed in 2026.
