Greenways update: June 2026

Melbourn Greenway
Shepreth
Work is progressing well on Angle Lane, with final works to be completed over the next few weeks. We’ve also made good progress elsewhere in the village, with the level crossing reopening to vehicles earlier this month following improvements to drainage and the junction outside Shepreth Railway Station.
As we finish work in the area around the level crossing, our contractor will be moving on to the next phase of work on Station Road around the village hall and Meldreth Road junction. This work will involve construction of a new raised table junction (like the one on Angle Lane) and a new crossing opposite the village hall, as visualised in the below image. These will support safer crossings for pedestrians, by slowing vehicle speeds.
Comberton Greenway
Adams Road
Whilst Adams Road is open, there are still works to complete such as road markings and implementing cycle street signs. Some of these activities may require temporary road closures. Where closures are needed, residents and businesses will be notified in advance. We are also doing inspections of the quality of the work to ensure everything installed is to the required standards.
We have been doing some monitoring which shows that during the week, more than 3,300 cyclists used the road on an average day in the week commencing 15 June
We would like to thank residents and people using Adams Road for their patience during the works.
Bottisham Greenway
Our consultation to improve Riverside in Cambridge as part of the Bottisham Greenway has just over two weeks left, so make sure you’ve had your say before it’s too late.
The consultation will run until 11.59pm on Monday 13 July.
Our proposals aim to create a more accessible and enjoyable through route to the city and its surrounding areas.

Joint Assembly and Executive Board update
Earlier this month updates on the St Ives Greenway, Melbourn Greenway and Sawston Greenway were presented and discussed at our Joint Assembly. Our Executive Board will meet on Thursday 9 July to discuss the recommendations being presented to the Board, which include the following routes:
- Greenways: St Ives (Oakington to Cottenham) full business case
- Greenways: Melbourn and Sawston full business case
- Greenways: Barton Greenway - Baulk Path
