Melbourn Greenway

Shepreth speed limit

Work to deliver a new walking and cycling link through Shepreth Village has now been completed.

The scheme has delivered key infrastructure to improve space in the village for walking and cycling such as reduced speed limits, better lighting, new crossings for walking and cycling, and addressing on-road parking throughout the village.

The improvements provide a safe link between Shepreth village and Shepreth railway station, as well as improving the crossing over Fowlmere Road where it meets the A10.

The works also included lighting improvements at the junctions of Fowlmere Road and Shepreth Road with the A10.

In addition to the works, the GCP and Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways team worked together to fix broken drainage, and the GCP provided extensive resurfacing of the highway from Shepreth railway station to Barron’s Green.

The link through Shepreth is one of four village spurs that are part of the Melbourn Greenway.

Sidgwick Avenue Spetember

Trial improvement works on Sidgwick Avenue started on Monday 19 October 2026 and are expected to last around eight weeks as part of installing the Experimental Traffic Regulation Order (ETRO).

The ETRO is a 12–18 month trial to improve the route for people walking and wheeling. These temporary improvements include widening sections of the existing footpath by removing parking bays, installing a drop-down bollard to stop through traffic, repairing potholes and damaged road surfaces.

The junction with Queens Road and Silver Street will be closed Monday to Friday 7am-5pm throughout the eight-week construction period. The closure will be removed entirely in the evenings and at weekends. A signed diversion via Newnham Road, Barton Road and Grange Road will be in place throughout the work. We will ensure access to properties on Sidgwick Avenue is available throughout the works.

On-street parking was removed on Sunday 18 October. Pedestrian and cycle access will remain available throughout the work.
