A1134

Project Summary

The A1134 is part of the ring road around Cambridge, linking directly to Addenbrooke’s hospital, A&E and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, as well as other areas of the city. 

We intend to improve walking and cycling infrastructure along a section of the A1134 in the south-east, from Addenbrooke’s hospital to Coldham’s Lane roundabout, including Fendon Road, Mowbray Road, Perne Road, and Brooks Road.

  • Increase walking and cycling levels by improving available active travel infrastructure
  • Improve pedestrian and cycle safety along the A1134 and at signal-controlled side road junctions
  • Address safety concerns at the Addenbrooke’s roundabout
  • Maintain or reduce bus journey times wherever practicable and improve bus accessibility
  • Support the shift from private cars to public and active travel modes
  • Support the substantial planned growth in Cambridge by providing safe and attractive active travel connectivity between new and existing communities and services

A key part of the proposals include fast-tracking cycling safety improvements at Addenbrookes roundabout, predominantly at the Fendon Road junction, which were completed in December 2025.

Fendon Road

Following the redesign of the scheme we will be completing stakeholder engagement in Summer 2026, with the aim to go out the public consultation in the autumn.
