Newmarket Road travel hub

Our Newmarket Road travel hub will replace the existing Newmarket Road Park & Ride.

A travel hub is a central place where people can easily connect between different ways of getting around, including buses, cycles, and walking.

Newmarket Road Park & Ride is leased and sits on land earmarked for future development. The new site is near the Newmarket Road and Airport Way junction, with easier access from the A14.

Designed with future growth in mind, the new travel hub will provide:

  • A bus turning area and multiple bus stops to accommodate future demand
  • Improved walking and cycling connections, including links to the Chisholm Trail and our local greenways
  • Potential for new bus routes to key destinations such as the Biomedical Campus, city centre, and railway stations.

The story so far

Travel hub layout

Between September and November 2025 we consulted on our proposed designs for the travel hub. These designs include:

  • Approximately 200 cycle parking spaces and storage
  • Approximately 1,800 car parking spaces, double the current capacity
  • Bus and cycle interchange
  • Travel hub building with toilet and waiting facilities
  • Designated space for coach parking
  • Signal-controlled access junctions on Newmarket Road and Airport Way
  • Extension of the Teversham shared-use path into the site

Now the consultation has closed, we will review all submissions and make sure that your feedback informs our design process.

Next steps

Going forward, we will submit a formal planning application in 2026. Subject to the approval of planning, we will complete detailed designs and appoint a contractor. Construction is due to start in 2027.
