Barton Greenway

Barton greenway - May 25

Improvements in Barton village

The first stage of our improvement works in Barton village along New Road are due to be completed next month. These will introduce a range of safety improvements in the village which will particularly benefit children and families travelling to and from Barton Primary School.

Key improvements include:

  • a new 3m wide shared pedestrian and cycle path
  • an upgraded street lighting network to ensure better visibility and reliability
  • three raised tables on New Road to slow vehicle speeds and improve accessibility when crossing the road
  • a new 20mph speed limit throughout the village
  • speed cushions along New Road and Comberton Road to bring speeds in line with the new limit
  • a zebra crossing on New Road to make it safer to reach Barton Primary School.

While New Road is temporarily closed, we’d like to remind everyone businesses in Barton are open as usual.

Barton Road path to be widened

Work to widen the walking and cycling path on Barton Road (A603), east of the Haggis Farm Interchange (M11 exit), will start next month. The construction of a temporary path will mean those who walk and cycle to work, school or leisure can continue to have access to safe and accessible journeys. Works to widen the path will mostly be carried out overnight to minimise disruption.

Comberton Greenway

Adams Road

Construction plans for the first ‘Cycle Street’ in England on Adams Road are nearly complete, and works are expected to begin this summer. The plans will make the route safer for cyclists and will also provide wider pavements for pedestrians to create a safer, more accessible environment on one of Cambridge’s busiest active travel routes.

As our plans progress, directly impacted residents and businesses will receive further details relating to the construction of the scheme via letter prior to works commencing.

Coton

Upgrades to junctions at Brook Lane and High Street, and High Street and Cambridge Road will be introduced in Coton this summer. . These will ensure speeds are kept slow, especially in front of Coton C of E Primary School, providing safer crossings for staff, students and parents.

Fulbourn Greenway

Phase 1 works

During these works there will be a diversion route along Pierce Lane. Resident access will be maintained throughout, however there may be Properties which will be directly affected have already been contact by CCC and provided the key works information and contact details.
