Between September and November 2025 we held a consultation on our proposed designs for the travel hub. These designs include:

• Approximately 200 cycle parking spaces and storage
• Approximately 1,800 car parking spaces, double the current capacity
• Bus and cycle interchange
• Travel hub building with toilet and waiting facilities
• Designated space for coach parking
• Signal-controlled access junctions on Newmarket Road and Airport Way
• Extension of the Teversham shared-use path into the site

The most recent consultation in 2023 set out the improvements that could be made to Newmarket Road to make walking and cycling safer, easier and more inclusive for all street users.
This consultation also set out the preferred site for the relocated and expanded Park & Ride.

Our second consultation, in 2021, sought views on design options for improving Newmarket Road and the relocation of Newmarket Road Park & Ride. 

In 2020 we built on the feedback received from our initial engagement in the summer, and consulted on short-term infrastructure improvements to Newmarket Road, longer-term improvements to public transport to support planned growth on the Cambridge Airport site, and upgrades to the Cambridge to Newmarket railway line. 

Our initial engagement period asked local residents and stakeholders their thoughts on where public transport, walking, cycling and equestrian improvements could or could not be made for those travelling into and around Cambridge from the east.
